George E. Darby

George E. Darby of Lake Wales passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the Lake Wales Medical Center.

He was born July 30, 1927 Castleberry, AL to the late George W. Darby and Clara Wilson Darby; he came here from Pensacola in 1963. He was a retired automotive mechanic for Scamehorn Chevrolet and Waverly Growers and retired from Mountain Lake Corp. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing and family time.

Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Darby in 1999. Survivors include his sons, G. Harold Darby of Lake Wales and Tom Bush of Winter Haven; brother, BoBo Darby of Pensacola; sister, Clara Ward of Pensacola and Georgia Mae Smith of Pensacola; four grandchildren, Donnie, Debbie, Brandi and Sheri; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale.
