George T. Carter

George T. Carter of Lake Wales passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Groves Center. He was born on September 25, 1913 in Jackson County, FL. He moved to Lake Wales in the 1920's to work in the citrus industry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and he was a Charter member of the Central Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie Lee Carter; brother, W.H. (Slim) Couliette; and sisters, Eddie Lee Owens and Mrs. C.F. Dicks. He is survived by nieces, Edna E. Blair of Lake Wales and Edna Lanier of Jacksonville; and nephew, T.J. Owens of Arlington, TX.

He was a man of integrity, greatly devoted to his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home, with visitation from 1:00-2:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
