Frederick Paul Van Assen, 68

Frederick P. Van Assen of Rockford, Michigan passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at Lake Wales Medical Center.

He was born December 23, 1947 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Paul and Emergene (Kaplanowski) Van Assen. He was a winter resident coming to Florida for a couple of years. He was a Relationship Manager for Spartan Stores. Fred was veteran of the United States Navy serving in Vietnam. He was a board member at North Kent Bible Church in Rockford, MI and a lifetime VFW member. He loved wood working, model trains and carving, he was an avid reader and had a great sense of humor.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Doris Van Assen.

He is survived by his wife Donna Van Assen, daughters Heather Beuler and husband Michael of Freeport, MI, April Allen of Caledonia, MI, son Daniel Van Assen and wife Cheri of Rockford, MI, Nicholas Van Assen of Orlando FL, step sons Donald Hill and wife Stephani Zwyghuizen of Jamestown, NY, Wesley Hill and wife Amy of Grand Rapids, MI and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date in Michigan.
