FRED HEMENWAY ELSE
Fred Hemenway Else, age 75, passed away Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 after a 16 year courageous battle with cancer.
He was an adventurous man and a seasoned pilot who frequently traveled to the remote jungle regions of South America.
Born October 29, 1932 in Lawrence, Kansas, his family moved to Washington DC where he served as a sea scout and a page in the U.S. Senate, attending Vice President, Arthur H. Vandenberg. A graduate of Duke University, he also studied abroad at the Sorbonne, Paris and served as a Captain in the Air Force as a trans-oceanic pilot for the Military Air Transport Service.
His diverse business experiences spanned much of the United States and South America, and included ownership of a large-scale injection moulding plant in the mid-west and a clay tile factory in Barbados. He was a consultant to Petrolios de Venezuela. Else moved to Lake Wales in 1989 where he was active in many local groups, served as a city commissioner and owner of Else Group Interior Design Firm.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Else of Lake Wales, daughters Chica of Lake Wales, Lili (Lindsey) McCutchan of Scottsdale AZ, son Britt (Lee Ann) of Atlanta, GA, sister Mary Ann Rowe of Fredricksburg, VA and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00pm, Friday, August 22, 2008 at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Wales.
