Frances McKinney Sims, 67, of Lake Wales passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 at The Oaks of Avon Park.

Born November 21, 1940 in Tampa; she came here as a child with her parents, Arthur and Estelle McKinney. She was a cook and baker for many local shops including the Chalet Suzanne, Hillcrest Elementary School, and was the former owner and operator of Panda Box Bake Shop. At age 15, she was a singer on the Sunday morning show for WIPC radio station. She enjoyed swimming, picnicking and family times with her kids and grandkids. She also assisted local residents in many ways.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Sims in 1995, and her brother, Olen McKinney. Survivors include her daughters, Kimberly Sims of Lake Wales; Katherine Burkland of Elgin, TX; sons, James Sims Jr. of Lake Wales; John Michael Sims of Lake Wales; brother, Bobby McKinney of Lake Wales; sister, Alene Wilson of Shermand, TX; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 6:00 PM, Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home, Lake Wales. For those who wish, donations can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823 or Gideon’s International, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
