WINTER HAVEN -- After serving more than 20 years as a bookkeeper at Cypress Lanes in Winter Haven, Mrs. Frances B. Scarborough was still working six days a week until about three weeks ago.

"She enjoyed being around the people," said her son, Donald "Don" Scarborough of St. Petersburg.

Mrs. Scarborough died of lung failure Thursday (June 29, 2006) at Winter Haven Hospital. She was 80.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Aug. 28, 1925, she came to Lake Wales in 1953. Mrs. Scarborough, who was an avid bowler in her earlier years, worked for Highland Lanes in Lake Wales for 18 years. She moved to Winter Haven from Lake Wales 21 years ago and later became employed as a bookkeeper at Cypress Lanes.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, working crossword puzzles and watching her favorite television shows. Her son described her as a very mellow, easy-going and caring lady. "She was definitely a giver. She would sacrifice if somebody else needed it," Donald Scarborough said.

She was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Haines City.

In addition to her son, Donald Scarborough, Mrs. Scarborough is survived by her daughters, Barbara Durden, Lake Wales, Connie Hall, Winter Haven; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at Lake Wales Cemetery.
