Frances Mulcay

Laura Frances Pearce Griffin Mulcay "Sweetmama" of Frostproof passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 at her residence.

She was born August 24, 1914 in Seville, GA to the late Dellie Delaney & Lizzie (Tippet) Pearce; and she came to Frostproof in 1922 at age 8 with her family to manage the newly opened Highland Hotel. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof, her ministry included being a Sunday School Teacher and Circle III. As a young mother she was active in her children's school activities and as a Girl Scout Leader she was involved on the state and national levels, where she was honored with the "Thanks" badge. Sweetmama was a member of the Frostproof Woman's Club, past president of the Lake Wales Country Club Ladies Golf Association and enjoyed china painting and world traveling, but her greatest treasure was her family.

Sweetmama was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. William T. "Bill" Mulcay; former husband, Ben Hill Griffin, Jr.; a grandson, Brett Griffin; and a son-in-law, George W. Harris, Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Harriett Griffin Harris of Bartow, Sarah Jane Griffin Alexander (John) of Frostproof, Lucy Anne Griffin Collier (Wayne) of Frostproof and Francie Griffin Milligan (David) of Worthing, England; son, Ben Hill Griffin III (Debbie) of Frostproof; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Monday, August 22, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Ragland officiating. A private family interment will be held at the Silver Hill Cemetery.
