Florence F Scott

April 25, 1916 — November 1, 2014

Florence Scott passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 in Cocoa Beach, FL.
Florence, the youngest and last surviving of eight girls, was born April 25, 1916 in Marietta, GA to the late Alfred Benjamin & Lillus Susan (Gramling) Castile. When she was very young, the family moved from Georgia to Florida, settling near Orlando. After losing both parents by 1928, Florence met William E. Scott through one of her sisters in Lake Wales, Florida. She married Bill in 1932 and they lived together in Lake Wales until his passing in 1973. They both enjoyed traveling to Florida’s many beaches to collect shells. Florence remained single the rest of her life because she, “could not find another man like my Bill.”

Florence worked off and on in the citrus industry most of her adult life. She fully retired in 1978 from Citrus World, better known as Donald Duck. Although the work was hard, she often spoke of the fun she had with “those girls down at the cannin’ plant.” At home, Florence enjoyed reading, cooking, and creating beautiful embroidery. She was also known for her many colorful sayings that was a part of her everyday speech, such as, “Bless Patty,” “I betcha a dime against a donut,” “useless as a bump on a pickle,” “weren’t even knee high to a puddle duck.”

Florence is survived by her two daughters Dorothy (Scott) Mimbs and Sandra (Scott) Payne. She has six grandchildren, one, Gary Forte, preceded her in death, twelve great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren, with one additional great-great grandchild expected in the near future.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 8, 2014 in the chapel of Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time. The Rev. Joseph Mimbs will officiate. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Health First, 1900 Dairy Road, Melbourne, FL 32904.
