Evelyn Evensen Pinther

March 20, 1927 — May 7, 2013

Evy passed away on May 7, 2013 in Winter Haven. She was born on March 20, 1927, the oldest daughter of Edward Evensen and Jennie Jacobson. Evy and her husband of 66 years, who preceded her in death on May 7, 2012, lived in Charleston, IL for 25 years and moved to Lake Wales in 1978. Much of their retirement was spent on the Polk County tennis scene with grandsons Evan and Wolfgang Pinther. Evy’s passion for travel took her around the United States, Europe, Scandinavia and Central America and she was often accompanied by her daughter, Valla, son, Paul and grandson, Wolfgang. Evy was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved being part of a large variety of family activities. Of many proud moments in her life, she was particularly proud to earn her B.A. in Science at the age of 40 and her M.A. in Science at the age of 42. She used these accomplishments to teach for a number of years at Eastern Illinois University and Charleston High School.

She is survived by her sister, Joann Herich of Sarasota; her three children, Paul (Ann) Pinther of Lower Gwynedd, PA, Evan (Margaret) Pinther of Lake Wales and Valla (Richard) Treuman of Winter Haven. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren, Evan (Kala) Pinther of Cape Coral, Wolfgang Pinther of Miami, Paul (Amy) Pinther IV of Columbia, MD, Dana (Dave) Klink of Toms River, NJ, Jens Pinther of Santa Cruz, CA, Jorn (Kristina) Richels of Lake Wales and Dana Fotiades of Philadelphia, PA. This family also blessed her with six great-grandchildren. Her family and many lifelong friends will miss her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Evy’s honor on May 19, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Beymer United Methodist Church, 700 North Lake Howard Drive, Winter Haven, FL 33881.

Memorial gifts in Evy’s honor may be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823.
