WINTER HAVEN--Evelyn Saunders “Keenie” Mathews, 80, of Winter Haven died of respiratory failure Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Hawthorne Inn.

Born March 21, 1926 in Tampa; she grew up in Frostproof and returned to the area in 1980 from Syracuse, NY. She was a homemaker and a member of the Beymer Methodist Church of Winter Haven. She attended Rawlings College, where she studied music and piano. She was a former pink lady and Miss Frostproof. She enjoyed playing bridge and being a mother. She was also a fifth generation native Floridian

Survivors include her sons, George Wade Mathews of Pearl, MS; John Keen Mathews of Weaverville, NC; Geoffrey Saunders Mathews of Winter Haven; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, Florida 33823.
