Evelyn Colon

Evelyn Colon, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, at AdventHealth Lake Wales Vitas IPU. She was born on July 29, 1945, in Puerto Rico, and throughout her 81 years touched countless lives with her gentle heart, steadfast strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.

Evelyn devoted her life to her family, embracing the essential role of homemaker. From the tender moments of her children’s early years to the wisdom she shared in later life. Evelyn was a very social person and loved to dance in her younger years. While being a resident at The Grove, she found the Lord and dedicated her life to Him.

Evelyn loved her family deeply and raised her four boys alone. She is dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons, Carlos Rivera and his wife Lizeth, Wilbert Elias and his wife Brenda, and Andy Elias and his wife Lina; her brother, Carlos Mario Colon; and her sisters, Lydia Zavala Ramos, Olga Zavala, Elizabeth Zavala Mendez, Carmen Sonia Arroyo, and Maria Minerva Zavala. The bonds Evelyn formed with her family extended well beyond blood, as she supported, guided, and uplifted those around her.

Evelyn is reunited in peace with her beloved son, Luis Alberto Rivera; her father, Alex Colon; her mother, Carmen Benedicta DeSarden; her sisters, Ada Adriana Zavala, Almida Colon, and Awilda Zavala Rivera; and Jaime Lopez, who preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m., until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Interment will follow at Lake Wales Cemetery.
