Eugene Leo Bordeaux, 86

Eugene "Gene" Bordeaux of Frostproof, FL passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Winter Haven Hospital.

He was born July 18, 1936 in Montague, Massachusetts to the late Leo and Jeannette Petrin Bordeaux. Upon graduating he served with the United States Navy from 1955 until 1959.

Gene began his career with Berkshire Gas Company in 1965 as Residential Sales Representative with the Greenfield, Massachusetts division moving up to Marketing Supervisor in 1979 which was based on the reorganization of the company's marketing department. He held a variety of positions during his years with the Berkshire Gas Company. During 1987 Gene was promoted to General Manager of the Berk-Gas Propane Division of Berkshire Gas Company. In this newly created position he was responsible for the company's expanded propane division serving Berkshire, Franklin and Hampshire counties. Gene retired in 1991.

After his retirement he and his wife, Jan, moved to Frostproof, Florida. While in Florida he volunteered at the Florida Heartland Medical Center in Sebring, FL and also with the Polk County Sheriff's Office serving on the Citizens Assisted Patrol. He was involved with the Lily Lake Billiards Club's memorial program; and was an unofficial greeter of the community welcoming all newcomers. He is remembered by residents in the community as the first person they met when they moved into the Lily Lake community. Gene was elected and actively served on the Board. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and was a big fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.

Gene is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janet Weller Bordeaux; daughter, Janene Bordeaux Baronas and husband Scott of Belchertown, Massachusetts; sons, Gene Bordeaux of Buffalo, New York, and Michael Bordeaux of Orange, Massachusetts; a sister, Claire Dominick of North Carolina; brother, Richard Bordeaux and wife Darnelle of Virginia; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

"Eugene" isn't remembered as "grandfather to us". He was known by the warmth of his big bear hugs when we needed the sanctuary that they provided; by the quiet words of wisdom he shared; or the feeling of our little hands in his as he guided us through adventures. He was a quiet man but his presence was known with his laughter or chuckle when we did something silly. We always felt his love. From his children to his grandchildren and passed onto his great grandchildren he was our respected role model. He was affectionately called............................................................ Pa.

Services will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice (Amedisys Foundation, 212 East Highland Drive, Suite 105, Lakeland, Florida 33813) or The Kidney Foundation ( www.kidney.org ).
