Esther Gerber Shelton, beloved mother and dedicated professional, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, in Lake Wales, Florida. Born on August 18, 1924, in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the cherished daughter of Charles Benjamin Gerber and Esther Martha Graham.
Esther had a distinguished career as an adjuster for Western Electric, where she was known for her meticulous attention to detail and her unwavering commitment to her work. Her professional legacy was further complemented by her active participation in community service. She was a proud volunteer at the Community Hospital in Indianapolis and a valued member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers.
Outside of her career, Esther was passionate about gardening, yardwork, and handy work, hobbies that reflected her vibrant spirit and dedication to nurturing both her home and community. She found joy in tending to her garden and was known for her green thumb.
Esther is preceded in death by her husband Preston Shelton and her son Anthony Shelton. She is survived by her son, Lee A. Shelton and his wife Cathy of Frostproof, as well as four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren, who remember her not only for her professional accomplishments but also for her kindness, resilience, and the love she shared with her family. Her passing leaves a significant void in the lives of those who knew her.
She will be remembered for her warm heart, her unwavering spirit, and her many contributions to the community. Esther Mae Shelton's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the many lives she touched throughout her lifetime.
