Essie Lee Griffin

Essie Lee Griffin, a devoted and cherished soul, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at AdventHealth Lake Wales. Born on November 24, 1954, in Nashville, Georgia, Essie’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her passions for cooking and gardening—activities that brought great joy and comfort to those around her.

Essie’s nurturing spirit was evident in the warmth she extended not only to her family but also to her close friend and caregiver, Sharniece Branch of Lake Wales, who stood by her side with steadfast care and companionship. Throughout her life, Essie cultivated lasting relationships and touched many hearts with her kind nature and generous spirit.

She is survived by her loving brothers, James Hancock of Lake Wales, Florida, and Lollie Joe Griffin of Lakeland, Georgia. Essie also leaves behind her half-brothers: Hollis and his wife Felda ("Punky"), Danny and his wife Wanda, Wayne and his wife Judith, Shirley, and Carson and his wife Sharon. Together, they carry forward her memory and the legacy of love she so deeply embodied.

Essie was preceded in death by her mother, Owlneda Kirkland, and her father, Billy. Their influence helped shape the remarkable woman she became.

Essie Lee Griffin’s passing leaves a tender void among her family and friends, yet her memory endures through the stories shared, the gardens she tended, and the meals she lovingly prepared. She will be remembered with respect and affection by all who knew her.
