Emory Lee Wine, 92, transitioned to be with the Lord at his home on October 18, 2018 at 7:13 pm very peacefully with family around him.
Born in Larned, Kansas, he was raised in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. He moved to Florida in 1942 and has resided in Lake Wales since 1948. Along with his first wife, Myrtle, he founded and pastored Apostolic Church (Now Canaan Land Worship Center) on 337 West Central Avenue, until 1956 when he felt a strong call to be a missionary.
After preaching revivals in Japan, Cuba, and Costa Rica, God directed him to Bluefields, Nicaragua. He first traveled to Bluefields, Nicaragua in 1957, where after months of prayer, he started Open Air meetings. In 1958, he planted a new church in Bluefields, Nicaragua, which eventually came under World Evangelim, Inc., a non-profit missionary agency he founded in 1960.
After marrying his second wife, Betty, the family moved to Nicaragua in 1965 and remained there until 1980 when they had to flee the country after the Sandinistas took over the government. From his home in Lake Wales, he traveled back and forth to Nicaragua several times every year until his retirement in 2014.
Since the initial beginnings in 1957, the work in Nicaragua has grown to thirteen churches with thousands still attending them.
Emory was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lola Wine; brothers, Leo, Victor and Jasper Wine; first wife, Myrtle; daughter, Mary Wine; sister-in-law, Frances Lee; and sons-in-law, Mitchell Fletcher and Ray Peterson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Betty Pearce Wine; sons, David (Debbie) and Jonathan Wine (Bobbie Thornton); daughters, Marti Wine Peterson, Debbi Wine Fletcher, and Esther Wine Coulter (Dale); sisters, Esther Haas and Lilah Boaz (Terry); brother-in-law, Roy Pearce (Nancy); sisters-in-law, Joyce and Naoko Wine; many nieces and nephews and 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was an amazing man, who could turn his hand to anything and everything. He was a pilot, flying small planes, with many adventures concerning them. He built a boat, The Tabernacle Lady, which he used to visit the different churches in the communities. He visited 43 countries-many on his own, and more in a world Tour, speaking in most of the countries. He was a very talented musician, playing the organ, the piano, the guitar, and the trumpet. The word Can't was not in his vocabulary.
He read the Bible daily and knew it intimately, just as he knew His Lord in a deep and special way. A committed husband and father, Emory's passion was for the people on the east coast of Nicaragua. He served them as a missionary for over 60 years, raising countless funds to support Nicaragua ministers, build churches, and provide relief after major storms. Most importantly, he served Christ faithfully from the moment he first became a Christian in 1941 until his passage from this life.
He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many people, all over the world, but especially by his family here, and by the Nicaraguans who love him as their Spiritual Father.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Impact Church in Lake Wales. Condolences may be sent to the family and the webcast of the service can be viewed at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com .
In Lieu of flowers, we request help for us to take him to Nicaragua, the place he desires to be laid to rest.
