Elsie June Ryan

Elsie June Ryan, age 91, of Babson Park, Florida passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2015, at the Good Shephard Sommers Hospice facility in Sebring following a period of illness.

Elsie Ryan was born on April 27, 1923 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jesse Ira and Elsie Mae (Prentice) Felgar. She graduated the Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Cincinnati, Ohio, as an RN in 1944. She married Albert Olen Ryan, Jr. in 1944 in Newport, Kentucky. The family settled in Brevard, North Carolina in 1961. She worked for the Transylvania County (North Carolina) Health Department as a Public Health Nurse until she retired in 1991. She was a member of Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church. Upon retirement, they moved to Crooked Lake in Babson Park, FL and joined the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales, where she active as a Bible Study Leader with her Women of the Church Elizabeth Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert O Ryan, Jr, MD and infant son, Timothy Olen Ryan. She is survived by her daughters, Judith Lynn Dowdy (Thelbert) of Fairview, NC, Meridel Lee Ellis (Michael) of Wellington, FL, Patricia Eileen Bryant of Hendersonville, NC, Kelly Jo Wheeler of Babson Park, FL; son, Thomas Patrick Ryan of Babson Park, FL, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales Music Ministry.

Burial to be at St. Paul’s in the Valley Cemetery in Brevard, NC at a later date.
