LAKE WALES--Elizabeth Mae “Betty” Fortner Welborn, 80, of Lake Wales died Thursday, September 06, 2007 at Dove Healthcare in Lake Wales.

Born September 05, 1927 in Plant City, she came here 62 years ago from Plant City. She starting working at Dolly’s Beauty Shop when she was 18 before opening Betty’s Beauty Salon in the early 70’s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Choir and participated in the ‘Singing Christmas Tree’ for many years. She was a former member of the Lake Wales Country Club Ladies Golf and active in the Eastern Star as a Past Worthy Matron, District Grand Instructor, she held several district offices and was very active in their charity
fund raisers.

Survivors include her sons, Charles P. Welborn Jr. of Babson Park; William E. Welborn of Decatur, GA; brother, Eugene Fortner of Deltona; sister, Ellen Richter of Dunnellon; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 PM, Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with an Eastern Star service at 4:30 PM. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, September 10, 2007 at the funeral home with Dr. Scott Markley officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823 or any charity of choice.
