Edward Abrams

Edward Walter Abrams (Buddy) of Lake Wales went to be with the lord on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale.

He was born August 14, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York; he was the fifth of 10 siblings. After high school he enrolled in the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corp.) working in Vermont planting trees and building roads from 1936-1937. The great depression was still taking its toll, so, in 1939 Eddie volunteered and proudly served in the 513th Parachute infantry during World War II. The pay was $17.50 a month. After the war ended he was employed by the Veterans Administration for 2 years before accepting a position as a letter carrier. He met and married Marion Warg. They moved to Seaford, Long Island and together raised their 3 children. He worked as a letter carrier in Brooklyn, New York and part-time as a Matre’de at Durows restaurant also in Brooklyn. In 1976 his beloved wife of 32 years passed away from heart failure. He retired to Nalcrest, Florida, and eventually settled in Tower Lakes, Lake Wales, Florida. Eddie was a positive role model to all his family. He was a mentor to his children and grandchildren. He led by example with a gentle but firm resolve. Always quick to laugh and tell a joke, yet solemn in his belief to always be honest and forthright. He was a true patriarch to all the family. He loved bowling, shuffle boarding (known as fast Eddie), gardening and was a collector of coins and stamps. He was blessed with a talent for singing and acting. He was a lifetime member of VFW post #2420 and member of the American Legion. He faithful attended the Tower Lakes Chapel.

Besides his wife Marion, Mr. Abrams was preceded in death by his 2nd wife, Ilse Taylor; sisters, Ethel, Irene, Helen and Dorothy; brothers, Willie, Stanley, Allen, John, Warren; granddaughter, Catherine Meduri; and an infant grandson, John Abrams. Survivors include daughters, Nancy Stoddard of Lake Wales, Susan and Charles Bowles of Auburndale; son, William Abrams of Medford, NY; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter, Isabella D. Andria.
