Dwight Reeves

Dwight Lavon Reeves, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and longtime CPA, died on March 3, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born on October 6, 1947, in Montgomery, Alabama, Dwight was the son of Dudley and Marjorie Reeves and grew up with his younger sisters, Donna and Debbie. He spent his early years moving with his military family from Montgomery to Chevy Chase, Maryland, then to Fairbanks, Alaska, before eventually settling in Melbourne, Florida. He graduated from Melbourne High School in 1965. During those years, he developed a love for sports and the outdoors. In high school, he survived a surfing accident in which he lost his board and had to swim a mile to shore. His athletic ability was especially evident in baseball, and he earned a scholarship to Brevard Junior College.

Dwight served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. He met Linda Bradley in 1968, and they married in 1969. While living in Huntsville, Alabama, and working at Redstone Arsenal, he worked the night shift repairing machines used to train soldiers during the day. During his time at Redstone, he also took his first Accounting 101 course through the University of Maryland, earning an A, from a young instructor he greatly admired. His Army service later took him and Linda to Okinawa, Japan, where he worked as a Nike missile calibrator and played for the Army baseball team. While stationed there, he continued taking courses, building toward his degree in accounting.

After returning to Florida, he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida. Upon graduation, he worked at Disney World’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride for one summer before earning his master's degree from the University of South Florida. He began working as a CPA in Orlando, where his sons Josh and Ryan were born. The family later moved to Lakeland, where his son Parker was born, and finally to Lake Wales, where they put down roots. In 1994, he opened his own firm, Reeves and Company, which later became part of Bunting, Tripp & Ingley. There he spent the rest of his career as a partner. He was a trusted accountant to many clients and influential in the community, serving as president of both the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club.

Those who knew Dwight knew his discipline and work ethic. During tax season and beyond, Dwight worked long hours for his clients. Even so, the center of his life was Linda and his sons. He cared faithfully for his wife during the years when illness kept her from working and many household tasks. He loved his sons and devoted himself to them, delighting in the simple joy of playing catch. One of his sons later reflected that he coaches youth baseball in part because of the influence of his dad. In his later years, Dwight found special joy in being a grandfather and was an excellent puzzler with his grandchildren. He was a wonderfully patient, kind, and loyal man, and he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Klosowsky. He is survived by his wife, Linda Reeves; his son Josh Reeves, his wife Courtney, and their children Ruby and June; his son Ryan Reeves, his wife Jessica, and his children Zoe, Owen, and Dexter; his son Parker Reeves, his wife Stephanie Wilhoit-Reeves, and their children Bradley and Jeanie; and his sister, Debbie Reeves. A private family burial will take place on March 14, 2026, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens in Trussville, Alabama, and a celebration of life will be held later in July in Lake Wales, Florida.
