Dreama Anita Barnett, 83
Dreama Barnett formerly of Lake Wales passed away Friday, June 30, 2023 at Scott Lake Health and Rehabilitation in Lakeland. She had been living in Lakeland with her family since the passing of her beloved husband, Bruce in June of 2017.
She was born February 28, 1940 in Pound, Wise County, Virginia to the late Eddie and Lydia Boggs; coming to Florida as a teenager, she has been a lifelong resident of the area. Dreama became a waitress as a young girl and later purchased the restaurant where she worked, with her husband. She was the co-owner of Sands Restaurant, which they built into a successful family restaurant. She loved serving all that entered Sands with good food and kindness. She was known for her vibrant personality and friendliness to all. After her husband’s illness, she became a full-time caregiver to him until his passing. During that time, she became an honorary Nana and good friend to many as she also babysat for friends and neighbors. She loved playing scrabble, card games, word puzzles, and watching game shows and her favorite Tampa Bay Rays. She adored her grandchildren and relished getting to see them participate in sports and other activities in her later years. She was of the Christian Faith and although she worked 7 days a week most of her life, she was a strong believer with her faith guiding all that she did.
Dreama was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Bruce Barnett; three sisters, Dorothy Humphries, Alice Loretta Maggard, and Rosa Wampler; and three brothers, Leonard Collins, Jezreel Collins, and Curtis Collins. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Turner of Lakeland; her grandchildren, Zane Turner and MacKenna Turner; son-in-law, Kenny Turner; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales.
