Dr. John Richard "Dick" Hankins

Dr. John Richard Hankins, 88

Dr. John Richard Hankins of Lake Wales, Florida passed away on January 20, 2022.

Dick was born on October 10, 1933, to the late Floyd and Edith Hankins. He graduated from Hurrican High School in Hurricane, WV in 1951. Dick has several degrees that include a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College, a master’s degree from West Virginia University, and a PhD from Case Western Reserve University.  Dr. Hankins was a member of The Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd in Lake Wales, a volunteer at the Lake Wales Arts Council, and loved to read, especially mystery novels. Dick often led book discussions at his church and was a Lector at the church as well. He became a long-time member of Bok Tower because of his love for the beautiful gardens.

Dick is preceded in death by his uncle and aunt Calvin and Ruth Hankins who helped raise him and his brother Thomas.

Dick is survived by his son Christopher Hankins and his wife Melissa of Medina, OH, and his brother Thomas Hankins and his wife Linda of Hurricane, WV. He was the proud grandfather of Nick Gall, Zachary Hankins, and Aubrey Hankins.

A memorial service will be held at The Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 12,2022. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com .
