Douglas Ray Hammel

Doug Hammel of Lake Wales passed away Wednesday, July 09, 2014 at the Winter Haven Hospital.

He was born October 19, 1946 in Huntington, IN to the late Stanton Frederick & Melba Louise Hammel; he came here from Tulsa, OK in 2001. He was a retired pipeline controller for Citgo, a member of the High Point Church and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. He played tennis in his younger days, liked corvettes and enjoyed watching all sports. He was always helping people and his family was very important to him.

Doug was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanton Hammel, Jr. and Rex Hammel. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Donna J. Hammel; daughters, Christine Knox (Paul) of Clearwater and Cathy Hammel of Lake Wales; son, Douglas Ray Hammel, Jr. of Lake Wales; sisters, Diana Deller of Angola, IN and Sallie Bower of Galveston, IN; brother, Barry Hammel of Warren, IN; and one granddaughter, Ryann Alexis Knox.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the memorial service at 3:00 pm Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Aaron Marino.
