LAKE WALES -- Mr. Douglas Stephen "Doug" Gerard of Lake Wales died of heart failure Sunday (Dec. 4, 2005) at Lake Wales Medical Center. He was 76.

Born in Flushing, N.Y., on May 20, 1929, he returned to Lake Wales from Southampton, N.Y., in 1988. He owned a Mobil service station on Long Island before he became a schoolteacher, teaching in the Mastic-Shirley Public School System and the East Hampton Public School System, both in Long Island. He graduated from Colgate University of New York where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an Episcopalian.

Mr. Gerard is survived by his daughter, Amelia Lucia Hildreth Gerard, Lake Wales; and former wives, Sylvia Sweeney and Carolyn Gallup.
