Douglas Earl Billings, 70
Douglas Earl Billings, born August 9, 1955, at Mary Rutan in Bellefontaine, Ohi0, was taken Home by our gracious and merciful Father on Saturday January 31, 2026. He is now cancer-free and reunited with his baby sister, Brenda Joyce, and his parents, William and Sondra Billings.
Although Doug never married or had any children, he wasn’t without family. Left here to mourn his loss and look forward to a blessed reunion in Eternity are his little sister, Marjorie Broyles; niece & nephew-in-love, Crystal & Darren Harbuck; nephew, Jared Broyles; great-nephew & niece-in-love, Donovan & Noelis Harbuck; great-nieces Alana Harbuck, Catriana Harbuck, Chloe Broyles, and Alexandria Broyles; and great-nephew, Xavier Broyles.
Most people who knew Uncle Doug knew he was an avid reader, a talented artist, and a member of Mensa. His walls were lined with bookshelves; he could read 4-5 novels in a single day. At work, his official title was metal fabricator, but he was an artist specializing in welding aluminum, which is very difficult to work with, completing complicated trig and calculus calculations in his head before crafting intricate pieces for customers. But because he was such a private man, most people didn’t know what a very generous man Uncle Doug was. He started volunteering to help adults with special needs when he was a teenager; something he continued even after his diagnosis. He also volunteered at the library teaching literacy to adults, as well as English to non-native speakers. Uncle Doug also mentored and apprenticed many welders throughout his career, many of whom have told of how he changed their lives by sharing his knowledge and techniques so freely.
