WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Dorothy Pitman-Baum of Winter Haven died of cancer Friday (Oct. 7, 2005) at Alterra Assisted Living Facility, Winter Haven. She was 83.

Born April 30, 1922, in Newnan, Ga., Mrs. Pitman-Baum moved to Winter Haven from Milledgeville, Ga. 18 months ago. She chaired the Georgia College University System Department of Sociology. She attended First Baptist Church, Milledgeville.

Mrs. Pitman-Baum was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Baum. She is survived by her stepdaughters, Mimi Carlton, Arcadia, Marianna Vincent, Newnan, Ga., Margie Pearsall, Greenville, N.C.; brother, T.E. "Gene" Pitman, Lake Wales; sister, Mollie Eloise Fields, Temple, Ga.

Memorial services will be at a later date in Temple.
