Doris Emily Acree

Doris Emily Acree of Lake Wales Florida passed away on February 11, 2010 at her daughter, Tammie Conner’s home in Lake Wales, Florida. She was 89.

Born February 26, 1921 in Youngstown, Florida and moved to Waverly, Florida when she was 2 years old. She came to Lake Wales in the early 1940's from Sebring with her husband, Sam.

She was a wife, homemaker and local artist. She studied and took classes under Esther Justice, Tom Freeman and Allie Cassel. Her paintings have been displayed at the Lake Wales library and at various art exhibits in the area. Ms. Acree was a member of the Golf view Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel O. Acree of Lake Wales; daughter, Wyvetta Bolden Hogan; two great grandchildren, Tristen and Colby Arey; two brothers, Horace Davis of Live Oak, FL and John Davis of Waverly, FL; sister, Vivian Tomberlin.

Ms. Acree is survived by three daughters. Darlene Kirchman of Belle Glade, FL, Sammie Candullo of Ocala, FL and Tammie Conner of Lake Wales; brother , Herman Davis of Lake Wales and sister-in law Vinnie Davis of Lake Wales and sister-in-law Ordee Acree of Lake Wales; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 115 South Missouri Avenue, Suite 500, Lakeland, Florida 33815.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM, Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 3:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
