Donna Colleen May

April 6, 1949 — November 22, 2023

Donna Colleen May arrived on April 6, 1949, and "moved on" November 22, 2023. She is survived by her sister Pam Thomas, brother Dave May, their spouses, several nieces and a nephew, grand nieces and a gray parrot names Charlie. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Doris Smith May and Harold E. May.

According to stories, Donna showed intelligence and mischief early on. Music and reading were early and ongoing passions. Books left open and piano noodling were normal sights and sounds of the house. Her elementary schooling included several one-room schoolhouses, one with outdoor toilets. She graduated from Bucktail Area High School in Renovo, Pennsylvania in 1967. Donna's many high school achievements included school paper editor, yearbook editor, choir, band treasurer and president, and Rainbow Girls. She performed as the lead in Oklahoma and The King and I and was the three-years winner of the school's Drama Award. Some of us say she continued to win the drama award many times over!

Donna attended Chatham College in Pittsburgh on a full National Merit Scholarship. Four years and an English major later, Donna moved to New York City with lifelong college friends. While there, she earned a master's degree and worked in the banking industry. After many years in the big city, she relocated to Wilmington, Delaware, where she continued to pursue her hobbies of playing guitar, singing, and drawing. Her favorite pastime was always pursuit of knowledge, especially political and scientific news. She surrounded herself with newspapers, magazines, and books on every topic imaginable. Oh, the books, books, books she gathered, and she read them all!

Donna's last few years were a struggle, but she kept her great sense of humor, her keen political opinions, and the outright strength of being the wonderful and unique Donna C. May.
