Don Talbert of Lake Ashton passed away Friday November 4, 2011 after battling a long illness related to the complications caused from diabetes. He is survived by his devoted wife, Fay Wood-Talbert and their four daughters, Christina Avants and her husband Bryan of Corona, Ca; Deborah Wood of Beverly Hills, Ca; Tiffany Mehrmann and her husband John of Toronto, Canada and Sandra Avants and her husband John of Westminster, CA; two treasured grandsons Kyle and Andrew and his precious cat and dog Mica and Tica.
Don was born August 27, 1946 in Keyser, WV to the late George and Gloria Talbert. He moved with his family around the world while his father served in the military until they finally settled in Southern California. Don and Fay came to Lake Ashton from Huntington Beach, CA five years ago. Don was a Bronze Star US Army decorated Vietnam War veteran. In 2006 he retired from the US Postal Service after a notable 40+ year career where he served as the Postmaster in several major cities throughout California.
Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend. His integrity, gentle strength and wisdom were an inspiration to many. He was an avid sports fan who especially loved football. His sense of humor and fun loving spirit lead to many lifelong friendships. As a deacon in his church, a scout leader and a community business leader, Don volunteered for and supported many humanitarian causes.
