Donald W. “Don” Lewis, 79

Donald W. “Don” Lewis of Lake Wales went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at his residence.

He was born March 10, 1941 in Bristol, Virginia to the late Clarence and Evelyn Lewis. During his working years, Don was a process server for the Polk County Sheriff Office, as well as working for the Lakeland Post Office for many years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. Don was a sports enthusiast with football being his primary passion. He played in high school and college, and he received a four-year football scholarship to Emory & Henry College. He was an avid Rays and Lightning fan. He enjoyed woodworking, vegetable gardening, taking care of his yard, and reading. He was a history buff and a great cook. He was known as “Daddo” by his grandchildren. Don was a devoted family man who loved his family with all his heart.

Don was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Eugene Lewis. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gloria Lewis; daughters, Donna L. Rees and husband David of Lakeland, and Amy M. McDonald and husband Shawn of Lakeland; son, Douglas M. Lewis and wife Courtney of Lake Wales; and grandchildren, Bryce R. McDonald, Benjamin W. McDonald, Caleb J. McDonald, Sara-Kate Lewis, Addison Grace Lewis, and Mason Jax Lewis.

Service is pending. Inurnment will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
