LAKE WALES--Donald J. “Don” Ramsay, 86, of Lake Wales died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at his residence.

Born October 18, 1920 in South Hadley Falls, MA he came to the area in 1972 from Pittsburg, PA.

He served in the US Navy during WWII and while in the service he played on the US Naval Team with Ted Williams in 1942. Following his military service he continued his baseball career playing with the New York Giants and Cincinnati Reds; he then was a scout for the New York Giants. He also attended the University of Indiana and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He continued his marketing career and became vice president of marketing for several companies including Coca Cola Bottling Company, Royal Crown Cola, Pittsburg Brewing and retired from Hacienda Foods. Mr. Ramsay was very active locally, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales and served as decon and in the men’s prayer group. He also volunteered for the Lake Wales Care Center and Meals on Wheels Program. He coached the Lake Wales High School softball team for many years and was recently honored by having the high school field named after him.

Mr. Ramsay was preceded in death by his first wife; Vivian Ramsay in 1996.

Survivors include his wife Margaret Jordan Ramsay; daughters, Alison Ramsay of Houston TX; Nancy Denton, Wendy Jenkins and Susan Lamar all of Lake Wales, FL. Eight grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church Lake Wales, with Rev. David M. Rockness officiating. In lieu of flowers family request donations to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund; 16 North 3rd Street, Lake Wales 33853.
