Donald E. "Gene" Courtney

Donald E. "Gene" Courtney of Frostproof passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

He was born July 31, 1927 in Brewton, AL to the late Jackson and Ivory (Kennedy) Courtney; and moved to Frostproof in 1949. He was employed by Florida's Natural for 43 years as a Sectionizing Superintendent and retired from their maintenance department. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Assembly, and an avid sports fan.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Vertice in 2004. Survivors include daughter, Renee Smith of Frostproof; son, Eric Courtney of Frostproof; sister, Emma Jean Adkinson of Pace, FL; brothers, Sanders Courtney of Jay, FL and Bill Courtney of Baskin, LA; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, April 2, 2010 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof. Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Christian Fellowship Church of Frostproof. Interment will follow at the Silver Hill Cemetery.
