Debra Johnston Plair

Debra “Debi” Johnston Plair was born at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, FL, on 02/22/1954.  In 1959, her family moved to Frostproof, FL, where she attended Frostproof High School, and graduated in 1972.

Debi spent her years working in administrative and retail sales positions.  She was very active in her community including volunteering at the local schools, Girl Scouts, Jaycees, Frostproof Chemical People, youth soccer, Vacation Bible School, and the youth groups at Baptist churches, both in Florida and Georgia.  Debi was a member of the Mission Ridge Baptist Church of Rossville, GA.

After retirement, she moved to Rossville, GA.  There she became interested in genealogy, and spent her time watching the cardinals, hummingbirds, and chipmunks from her deck.  She loved quilting, gardening, trips to the mountains, and visiting Civil War sites.  Her favorite things included Frostproof football, the San Francisco 49’ers, and anything with Joe Montana.  She kept in touch with her friends and family through Facebook, and she loved every minute of it.  She was loved by many, and always shared an encouraging word.

On September 26, 2019, and following a lengthy illness, Debi passed away at her home in Rossville, GA.  She is preceded in death by her son, Jason Wyatt Plair; her parents, Louie and Ruth Collins Johnston; and her brother, David Johnston.

Debi is survived by her husband and best friend of 47 years, Larry Plair, of Rossville, GA; her son, Yancy Plair, of Frostproof, FL; her daughter, Melanie Plair Bales (Tim) of Bartow, FL; her grandchildren, Anna and Grace Plair, of Frostproof, FL, and Courtney, Will, and Candice Newman, of Bartow, FL; and her sister, Beverly Malmquist, of Frostproof, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Youth Program, Mission Ridge Baptist Church, 337 Mission Ridge Road, Rossville, GA 30741

A graveside service will be held at Silver Hill Cemetery in Frostproof, FL, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 02, 2019 officiated by Pastor John Essigmann.
