David M. Blackwelder Jr. of Frostproof passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the Lake Wales Medical Center.

He was born May 31, 1942 in Frostproof to the late David Monroe & Etta Jane (Meeks) Blackwelder Sr.; he was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Polk County Road Maintenance and of the Protestant faith. He was a graduate of Frostproof High School and was formerly on the County Equal Opportunity Board. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, reading and family times. He was also an avid Tampa Bay Bucs fan and was known for his humor and quick wit.

David was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Wyatt and Dorothy Sireci and a brother, James Blackwelder. Survivors include his daughters, Beth Blackwelder Fromm of Naples, Jennifer Brooks of Georgia, Kimberly Blackwelder Siler (husband-Thomas) of Fort Meade and Jessica Marie Blackwelder of Winter Haven; sons, David Glenn Blackwelder of Naples and Christopher Seymour of Mims; brothers, Elbert Blackwelder of Fort Meade and Larry Blackwelder of Frostproof; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the funeral home with Rev. Darrol Hood officiating. Interment will follow at the Silver Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be sent to the Christian Fellowship Assembly Church, Food Bank, 16 East 1st Street, Frostproof, FL 33843.
