Dave Marshall of Winter Haven, FL and Wheelersburg, OH passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Heart of Florida Hospital in Davenport, FL.
He was born June 4, 1945 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Herbert Clark and Mildred Iavon (Coddington) Marshall, and has been a winter resident of Winter Haven for the past few years and attended St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Haines City, FL. He was a chemical operator and retired after 27 years from Sunoco Chemical (Haverhill, OH). He graduated from Bethel Park High School (Pittsburgh), and from Salem College with a BS in Human Relations where he was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. He was awarded the Boy Scouts Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow and achieved the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouting--Eagle Scout. He later became a Boy Scout executive for 10 years.
He was a loving husband, wonderful father, and loyal friend, and was frequently referred to as the “Gentle Giant”. An inspiration for people around him, he was a good and kindhearted man, who strived to always do the right thing. He was an optimist to the end and looked for the good in people. Although he was unable to serve, Dave loved the military and had great pride in our troops. He had a “golden heart.” He loved his God, his country, his family, friends and pets. He will be greatly missed by many, especially Ferris, his faithful lab companion of 15 years.
