Daulton Wayne Collier went home to be with his Lord at home in Frostproof, Florida on Friday, May 27, 2022.
Wayne was born December 4, 1930 to Mary Velma Henderson Collier & Daulton C. Collier. Married on October 29, 1989 to Lucy Anne Griffin Collier for 33 years. A lifetime resident of Hardee County and genuine Florida Cracker – He grew up before Florida fencing laws in the area of Crewsville, FL west of Highlands Hammock. His first jobs were milking cows, breaking colts, & working cattle for nearby ranchers and driving the school bus his senior year of high school in Zolfo Springs, graduating in the class of 1948.
A man of true integrity of character – his endeavors included: Member of Hardee County Farm Bureau, President of the Hardee Cattleman’s Association, Member of the Elks Club, Member of the American Brahman Breeders Association, Managing Partner with Adrien Chapman of Chapman & Collier Cattle Company (Brand CC Double Bar), Owner & Operator of Collier’s Rocking Bar W Ranch. He was also instrumental in the building of the current Hardee County Cattleman’s Arena, enjoyed years of showing ribbon winning registered gray Brahman’s, raised a National Champion in Reining Appaloosa horse, High-Sign, and served as an Elder in the Frostproof Presbyterian Church (ARP).
Wayne is survived by his wife Lucy Anne Griffin Collier, Step-daughter Cynthia Lynn Matteson (m. Byron G. Matteson), Step-son Baxter Griffin Troutman, and 4 grandchildren – Byron “Gray” Matteson, Jacob Baxter Matteson, Emily Frances Matteson, & Holly Kate Troutman.
Wayne had been the patriarch of his late sister’s family Norma Wilma Wingate since the passing of her husband Ancel Wingate. Her children are Betty Ann Baker (m. Ricky), Billy Ancel Wingate (m. C. J.), Larry Eugene Wingate (m. Corey), Nancy Benton (m. Donald), and the favorite Connie Elizabeth Trammell (m. Johnny), 14 great nieces & nephews, 23 great great nieces & nephews, & 3 great great great nieces & nephews.
A visitation will be held Sunday June 5, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof. The funeral service will be held Monday June 6, 2022 at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Hardee County FFA & 4H Youth Programs as well as First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof for the Church Chimes & Sound System.
