Curtis Dee Ammons, Jr

Curtis Dee Ammons, Jr. 84, of Lake Wales passed away, Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Winter Haven Hospital.
He was born October 22, 1930 in Lake Wales, Florida to the late Curtis Dee Ammons, Sr. and Mattie Wilkinson Ammons – Bunch where he has been a lifelong resident. He was a retired Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer for Lockheed Martin for over 40 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Lake Wales, Member of the Lake Wales Airport Authority Board where the Airport Authority Board by unanimous vote, recommended that The New Lake Wales Fixed Based Operator Building, be named “The Lake Wales Municipal Airport, Curtis D. Ammons, Jr. Center for Aviation.” He was a member of the West Side Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. Curtis was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Air Force.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 ½ years Betty Lou Ammons in February 2015.

He is survived by his son, Curtis Dee Ammons III and wife Roletta of Hernando, MS; daughters, Karen Danford and husband Mike of Statesboro, GA, Kathryn Vest of Lake Wales; sisters, Sara Steger and husband Richard of Winter Haven, Nell Melton and husband Dub of Lake Wales, Lula Haines of Lake Wales, Selma Carruth of Bartow, Alvine Walker and husband Erskin of Winter Haven, Margaret Trammell of Lake Wales, Marie Harper of St. Petersburg, Peggy Howell of Lake Wales, Winona Pitts of Bartow , Kay Herndon of Winter Haven; 4 grandchildren, Deeann Finnell and husband Scott, Candace McElhaney , Curtis Dee Ammons IV, and Erika Brennan and husband Brian; 4 great grandchildren, Delanna Ammons, Carter Finnell, Maggie McElhaney and Blakely Brennan.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Bolden officiating. Interment will be held at the Lake Wales Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 pm until service time.
