Coach George R. Jackson of Frostproof passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Somers Hospice House in Sebring.
He was born October 11, 1944 in Pittsburg, PA to George Raymond and Gertrude (Heitz) Jackson, Sr.; and he has been a resident of the Frostproof area since 1966, moving here from Pennsylvania. He was a teacher for the Polk County School Board, a member of the Frostproof Art League, Frostproof Care Center, Friends of Library, Lions Club, a coach at Frostproof High School, and was a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof.
George was preceded in death by his father, George R. Jackson, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Judy Jackson; daughters, Laura Nelson of Columbus, OH and Linda Kennedy of Kenansville, NC; son, Scott Jackson of Frostproof; mother, Gertrude Heitz Jackson of Zelienople, PA; sisters, Elaine Colao of Elwood City, PA and Marjorie Jackson of Zelienople, PA; five grandchildren, Steven, Elizabeth, Victoria, Benjerman, and James.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Frostproof High School Gym with Rev. Buzzy Elder officiating. Family will be receiving friends at the Frostproof Gym on Saturday from 12:00-1:30 PM. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Frostproof Care Center (21 South Scenic Hwy, Frostproof, FL 33843), Frostproof Art League (12 East Wall Street, Frostproof, FL 33843) or First Presbyterian Church (101 North Palm Avenue, Frostproof, FL 33843). Family request that if possible for anyone attending the service for George to please wear red and white.
