Memorial for LtCol (Ret) Chris H. Mendez United States Marine Corps.

Christobol Hernandez Mendez, age 69 of Lake Wales, Florida, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Tampa General Hospital.
He was born October 1, 1948, in Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Otila H. and Ernest L. Martinez; and by his father, Raul O. Mendez. He has been a resident of the area since 2015 coming here from Maryland. He was a thirty year veteran in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1968-1998. He was member of the Port Royal Masonic Lodge in South Carolina. He enjoyed golfing and billiards.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-one years, Cynthia “Cindy” Mendez, stepson, Jon W. Tarrant of Lexington Park, Maryland and his brother, Raul H. Mendez & wife, Maria of San Antonio, Texas. Other survivors include, half-sisters, Tina Ramirez & husband Manuel and Angelina Ables of Ohio, half-brothers, Leonard Mendez & wife Jesusita of Texas and Raul O. Mendez & wife Gayle of Ohio, step-brother, David Hasting & wife Teresa of Ohio, and step-sisters, Carolyn Wireman & husband James of Ohio and Peggy Mayhorn & husband Wandell of West Virginia.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, 9 December 2017, at the Lake Ashton Veterans Memorial located to the right (west) of the Lake Ashton Clubhouse. The Memorial will include the Lake Ashton Veterans Association (LAVA) Color Guard. Refreshments will be served immediately following at the Lake Ashton Pavilion located directly behind the Veterans Memorial. (Lake Ashton address: 4140 Ashton Club Dr., Lake Wales Florida 33859).

Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
