FAYETTE, Ala. -- Ms. Charlotte J. Blanchard of Fayette, Ala., formerly of Lake Wales, died of lung failure Friday (June 23, 2006) at Fayette County Medical Center. She was 84.
Born in Mount Hope, W.Va., on Dec. 8, 1921, she lived in Lake Wales before moving to Fayette in March. She was a retired third- and fourth-grade teacher for Polk County Schools, with 30 years of service, most of it at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lake Wales. She was an Army veteran of World War II and a charter member of the 86 WAC Veteran Association. She was a member of the AAUA. She was a volunteer at Historic Bok Sanctuary and a member of the church choir. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Wales.
Ms. Blanchard is survived by her cousins, Frances Lowe, Fayette, Lorna Johanson, Felton, Calif., Charles S. Merriam, Norfolk, Va., Robert Barrett, Bethesda, Md.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Lake Wales. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Lake Wales Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the American Heart Association.
