Charles Smith

Charles “Vern” Smith of Lake Wales passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Lake Wales Medical Center.

He was born October 29, 1924 in Fort Meade to the late Effie Mae Dean; and he was a lifelong resident of the area. He retired after 30 years from Florida Power Corp and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the IBEW Union and enjoyed fishing and family times.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Smith. Survivors include his daughters, Charlotte Faye Phelps and husband, Ernie of Lake Wales and Virginia Kaye Tindle and husband, Rodney of Plant City; sons, Charles Rodney Smith and wife, Susan Marie of Lake Wales and John A. Smith and wife, Cindy of Lake Wales; five sisters, Virginia Day of Sequin, TX, Joyce, Patsy, Lucille and Pauline; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday, May 12, 2014 and the funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Nathan Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery Mausoleum.
