Charles William King, Sr. of Gainesville passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Park Meadows Nursing Home.

He was born July 31, 1938 in Lake Wales to the late Marvin and Mae King. Charles was a retired air traffic controller and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed watching horseraces and owned racehorses at one time. Charles enjoyed traveling to places like France, Spain, and Venice. Overall, he loved his family.

Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin King; sister, Lillie Mae King-Young; and half-brother, Joseph Carnal. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lumeadda “Lea” King; daughters, Amy Lea King-Schmid and husband Peter of Gainesville, and Deanne Elaine Caldwell and husband John of Gainesville; sons, Chuck King, Jr. of Gainesville, Jonathon King and wife Kellie of Titusville, and Matthew King and wife Susi of Poinciana; grandchildren, Kathrine, Charlene, Olivia, Megan, Eric, Patricia, William, Jonathon, Alissa, Jonie, Charles, Jesse, Matthew, and Sarah; greatgrandchildren, Tilion, Ezre, Cameron, Aubrey, Merlin IV, and Aurora; and half-brother, Gary Carnel.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Interment will follow at Lake Wales Cemetery.
