Byron Y. Bowers

Byron Y. Bowers, 72, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida.

Byron was born February 6, 1937 in Lake Wales, Florida and lived and worked his entire life in that area. He was a dredge operator for Lake Wales Independent Sand Company for many years, drove a cab for Lake Wales Cab Company and was later employed by K-Mart as a stockman. He loved to fish, watch "Gator" football, wrestling and enjoyed playing Bingo in his later years. He also enjoyed talking on his CB radio. Byron was of the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Myrtle Bowers, a twin sister, Beatrice Ann Bowers and a daughter, Mary Ann Bowers.

He is survived by his long time friend and caregiver, Robin L. Page; children, Byron Lee Bowers of Tracy City, TN, Kathy Lee Bowers of Manchester, TN and Chester A. Bowers of Tallahoma, TN; two brothers, James T. "Pete" Bowers (June) of Buckley, WA and Herman D. Bowers (Margie) of Waldo, FL; 12 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Sonny Howell officiating and a visitation beginning at 12:00. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, next to his twin sister. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to your favorite charity.
