Obituary
Brenda Joyce Wright, Age 64
1962-2026
Brenda Joyce Wright was the oldest of four children, born February 8,1962 in Columbus, Georgia to Huevon and Joyce Ann McSwain. Surrounded by family, pastor and friends singing her into the arms of Jesus, Brenda went home to be with her Lord on April 23rd at Advent Health, Lake Wales, Florida. Brenda was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend. She volunteered with the Circle of Friends Ministry and was actively involved at Lake Wales campus of Impact Church.
Brenda loved to laugh! Whether she was creating a new recipe in the kitchen, doing a craft with the Circle family, going fishing or serving with her sisters in Christ at a Ladies Conference, Brenda’s sense of humor was evident. She loved Jesus and desired to let Him shine through her to others. Even in the last months of her life, traveling from hospitals to rehab Centers and back to hospitals again, the family heard about the influence Brenda had on the doctors and nurses and staff. Her joy and wit simply supplemented her passion to follow Jesus and be His light especially in the middle of some rather dark days from February 6th to her passing on April 23rd.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her beloved husband, Randy Wright; her grandparents, Madlen K. and Lois Kay McSwain, Harvey Watkins and Bernice Henderson Whitehead; brother, Timothy McSwain; sister, Bessie Kay McSwain; uncles Orville W. McSwain, Tabi Rex McSwain, Ronnie Watkins, John Fehringer, Herman Sellers, and Robert (Bob) Kelly; one aunt, Lovean (Wyman) Lawrence; and “Bestie” Cousin, Tina Stokes.
Brenda is survived by her brother (who could always make her laugh!) USAF Ret. MSgt Steven P. (Debbie) McSwain; her most loved children, Dr. Christian (Alisa) Logan Johnson and Randal Olan Wright; one nephew, Steven (Katie) McSwain, Jr; two nieces, Brandi (Keith) Harrington and Chloe (Kelson) Hickman ; two aunts Mertice Kelly and Linda Sellers; one uncle, Frank Hicks; many cousins, two of whom she lovingly referred to as “sister-cuz”, Karyn (Curtis) Brinkmeyer and Kim (Jeff) Allen; one sister-in-law, Sabrina Clark; five great-nephews, Kaydn and Kyler McSwain, Carson, Mason and Wyatt Harrington; two great-nieces, Kinley Henderson and Makenzie McSwain; many other relatives and friends and her 4-legged feline family members, “Bandit and Zoe”.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2nd at Impact Church, 1201 Burns Ave, Lake Wales campus. Officiating the service will be Rev. Walter Nelson. Arrangements provided by Marion Nelson Funeral Home of Lake Wales, Florida. Inurnment of Brenda’s ashes will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery beside her husband, Randy Wright.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Brazilian friend/ & student of Warner University, Julia Carvalho de Jesus, for creating Brenda’s slide show; the church family of Impact Church for visits, prayers and encouraging words; the doctors, nurses and staff at Advent Health for the care given to Brenda; and to Maggie Watkins for “more than words can express!”
Brenda will forever be remembered for the twinkle in her eye, her compassionate heart and her faith in Christ. Today, we celebrate that, at last she’s flying free and shining brighter than ever before!!
“The lovers of God walk on the highway of light, and their way shines brighter and brighter until the perfect day.” Proverbs 4:18
