Betty J. Shields

Betty J. Shields of Lake Wales passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at her residence.

She was born August 26, 1937 in Adel, GA to the late Lessie and Mary (Mixon) Lasseter; and came to Lake Wales in 1941. She was a retired L.P.N. from Lake Wales Hospital, and a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford in 2007; brothers, Noma, Wesley, LT, Henry, and Grady Lasseter; sisters, Essie Williams, Gladys Sabah, and Effie McMullen. Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia Laureti of Winter Haven, Vivian Vance of Lake Wales; son, Sandy Shields of Lake Wales; sisters, Bess Massey of Wildwood, Stella Hall of Lake Wales; grandchildren, Michael Laureti, Valerie Adkins, Adam Martin, Katy Vance, Ashley Shields, Melanie Shields; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 6:00 PM Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home, Lake Wales, with Rev. Ken Geren officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until service time. Interment will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, 9365 US Highway 19 North, Suite B, Pinellas Park, FL 33782).
