Barry Merle March, Sr.

Apr 11, 1942 — Jul 7, 2026

Frostproof, Florida

Barry Merle March, Sr., passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, in Sebring, Florida. He was born on April 11, 1942, in York, Pennsylvania, and over the course of his eighty-four years, touched many lives with his warmth, talents, and steadfast presence.

Barry’s life was characterized by a quiet strength, enduring faith, and boundless curiosity. He attended bible college early in life, nurturing a spiritual foundation that remained central to his character and that he often shared through his love of singing—especially the old hymns that brought him comfort and joy. Those who knew Barry can fondly recall his melodious voice filling the room, a testament to the simple happiness he found in music and fellowship.

Barry dedicated himself as a residential handyman. Whether repairing a leaky faucet or rebuilding a piece of furniture, Barry approached each task with patience, care, and the keen eye of someone who truly loved to tinker. Oftentimes picking up others' trash and turning them into his own valuable treasures. Using his skills and ingenuity to solve problems and help others, his work ethic extended beyond his vocation; he once drove a school bus, ensuring children arrived safely each day—a responsibility he carried with reliability and pride.

During his many years in Frostproof he was most at peace on the dock by his home on Lake Clinch, looking out across the water, talking to Jesus.

Barry had many interests. He enjoyed riding his bicycle around the Frostproof city, walking the track, and shooting hoops. He was delighted in painting, often translating his appreciation for the world around him into art. His knack for fixing things and his love of discovery meant there was rarely an idle moment; he was happiest when exploring how something worked or giving new life to a familiar object.

The foundation of Barry’s heart was his family. He is survived by his children Robin Sutherland, Jill Montgomery, Barry March Jr. and David March. He also leaves behind his son- and daughters-in-law: Phil, Mary, and Kristen.

8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. His sister, Carolyn Miller, his brother Ramond March, and his sister-in-law Sharon.

Barry is reunited in peace with those who passed before him: His parents Richard A. and Erma March, son-in-law Curtis Montgomery, sister Madean Ku, and brothers Richard L. March and Abe March.

Barry’s legacy is found within the bonds he nurtured, the work he did with his hands, and the joy he brought wherever he went. His laughter and song, his generosity with his time and talents, and the lessons he imparted to family and friends are gifts that live on.

Barry's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to George, for many years he has been a trusted friend of Barry's. Thank you for being the kind of friend he could count on whether he needed a ride to appointments, repairs to his home, grabbing a bite to eat, or having an ear to listen, you were there for him. For that we are forever grateful.

We would also like to thank Barry's selfless neighbor Dana and her family. You opened your heart to a stranger who was next door, without his family close by, and you truly became like family to us all. Offering time and care to check on him even when it was not convenient. We know the Lord placed you in all our lives for a special purpose. Thank you for the meals you took, the tough love you gave (even when he argued back), the laundry you did (even when he instructed you on how to do it), being with him in the hospital (even when he wasn't the best patient) , being willing to facetime us at the end of his life (even when your heart was breaking too). You are a blessing to us all, and we will never forget your love and kindness.

Family and friends, we ask that you treasure each day you have and cherish those around you. We know that Barry is in the presence of the Lord, and Barry's hope would be that you all would come to the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus and profess Him as your Lord and Saviour.

Romans 10:9 (NIV) If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:13 (NIV) for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
