Barbara Jean Henderson, a cherished mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed away peacefully at her residence on February 26, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on December 25, 1931, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she dedicated her life to her family and her passions.
For many years, Barbara owned and operated a photo shop in Grand Rapids. After spending three winters in Florida, she and her husband decided to make it their permanent home, becoming residents for the last 20 years. After their move to Lake Wales, Barbara worked at the Y'all Come Back Saloon for 15 years. She enjoyed putting together puzzles and loved knitting, took great joy in making everyone slippers, socks, and scarves.
Barbara leaves behind her loving husband of 75 years, William "Bill" Henderson, Jr. Their family includes their daughter, Kathy May and her partner John Will of Lake Wales; their son, William Henderson, III and his partner Pat Doane of Lake Wales; and their son, Timothy Henderson and his wife Mary of Lake Wales. She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Van Dyke of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jim Van Dyke of Buford, Georgia, and Roger Van Dyke and his wife Jan of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The family is blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son, David Henderson; her parents, Isaac and Evelyn Van Dyke; and sisters, Maryann Rayburn, Carol Talsma, and Sally Turner.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2026 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com.
