BARBARA MARIE CURRIE FRENCH
Barbara Marie Currie French went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 8, 2007.
Barbara was born December 20, 1923 in Shrewsbury Township, New Jersey to Locke Shaw Currie and Gladys Blanch Fuller Currie. Barbara had two brothers, Paul an Leslie, and one sister, Irene. Barbara graduated fro high school and took secretarial courses in shorthand and accounting.
Barbara met and married Leslie Bundy French in Washington D.C. during World War II in 1944. They had 48 happy, adventurous years together before Les’s death in 1992. Together they lived all over the United States including a forest service look-out tower in the Tahoe National Forest in northern California and the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park in south eastern Utah. In 1975 they moved to the Frostproof area.
Barbara worked a variety of jobs until her daughter, Gladys Winifred was born. After waiting 21 years of marriage waiting for children, Barbara was happy to be a full time homemaker, wife and mother until her death.
Barbara became a Christian at a young age and always made time to read her Bible and pray daily. She was a member of the First Presbyerian Church of Frostproof, and in later years would ride her mobility scooter to the SunRay Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Gladys Roberts of Lake Wales; and her sister, Irene Holmes of Yarmouth Port, MA; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
