Anita Whitehurst

Anita Whitehurst, 87 of Lake Wales passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Waters Edge of Lake Wales.

She was born March 1, 1926 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Donald and Maude (Jenkins) Hodges and has been a resident of the area since 1936 moving here from Valdosta, GA.
She was a retired School Teacher with Spook Hill Elementary. Anita was a member of the DAR, Tri Delta Sorority, Majorette in Lake Wales High School Band, she was an avid Gator Fan, proud to be a southern lady and her favorite meal is fried chicken. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Whitehurst in 2004 and her son, Wynne Whitehurst in 2008.

She is survived by her sons, Joe Rich Whitehurst and wife Kim of Apopka, George “Bubba” Whitehurst and wife Kathy of Winter Haven.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, January 10 , 2014 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with The Rev. Fr. Thomas Seitz, Jr officiating. Interment will be held at the Lake Wales Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home.
