Alvis Townsend, Jr, 83, of Frostproof passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008 in Babson Park of cancer.

Born January 10, 1925 in Herrin, IL; he came here from Montrose, MI in 1975. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Viet Nam, serving in the U.S. Marines Corp and retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He was raised in the Church of God faith and enjoyed working in his yard.

Alvis was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Townsend and son, Gordon “Butch” Lauf. Survivors include his daughters, Ruth Teate of Winter Haven; Vickie Glass of Babson Park; sons, Joe Townsend of Clio, MI; Ben Lauf of New Lothrop, MI; William “Bill” Lauf of Milwaukie, WI; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 PM, Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Frostproof. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, March 17, 2008 at the funeral home in Frostproof. Interment will follow at the Silver Hill Cemetery.
