Alton Junior Caraway, a dedicated Master Chief for the United States Navy and beloved family man, passed away on June 5, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida. Born on July 29, 1941, in Frostproof, Florida, Alton's life was marked by unwavering service, deep faith, and a rich tapestry of interests that brought joy to those around him.

Alton proudly served in the United States Navy for 23 years from 1960 to 1982, when he retired from Active Duty, rising to the esteemed rank of Master Chief. His commitment extended beyond active duty, as he was an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association and served as a Company Commander in Orlando. His leadership and dedication were recognized and respected by all who knew him. He was the epitome of a Girl Dad because he received the honor of being the 1st male Commander of an all-female company of new recruits

A man of the Protestant faith, Alton found joy in both family and leisure. He loved to dance, embrace friendly competition through bowling and football, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. His passion for all sports and puzzles reflected a vibrant spirit and an eager mind.

Family was central to Alton’s life. He is survived by his daughters Cathy L. Johnson and her husband Kenneth of Sebring; Susan L. Deese and her husband Scott of Lakeland; and Stacey D. Sellers of Alturas, Florida. He is also survived by his sisters, Wanda McKenzie of Blairsville, Georgia, and Connie Padgett of Avon Park; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. His family cherishes his memory and the countless moments of love and laughter shared together.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Frances "Fran" Parrish Caraway, who passed in 2020; his parents, Homer A. Caraway and Annie Lois Kelley; his brother Alvin Judson Caraway; and his stepbrothers Donnie Ray Courtney and William Paul Courtney.

A visitation with family will be held on June 19, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Marion Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory (454 Buck Moore Rd, Lake Wales, Florida).
